Health Education

Better health starts with information people can understand and use.

At Asian Women for Health, we provide health education that reflects the languages, cultures, and experiences of the communities we serve—helping people build the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their health.

Everyone deserves to understand their health.

Health information may be widely available, but that doesn’t mean it is equally accessible.

  • For many Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI), and immigrant communities, important health information may not be available in a preferred language or may be difficult to understand. And even when information is translated, the words alone may not reflect the cultural beliefs, experiences, family dynamics, or everyday realities that shape how people understand and make decisions about their health.

  • Navigating an unfamiliar healthcare system can create additional barriers. Medical terminology, differences in how health and illness are discussed, and uncertainty about where to turn can make it harder to find and use the information people need.

  • That’s why culturally and linguistically accessible health education matters.

It isn’t simply about translating words. It’s about making health information meaningful, relevant, and easier to use.

Our Approach

Meaningful health education begins with listening.

AWFH works alongside community members, Community Health Workers (CHWs), healthcare professionals, researchers, and trusted community organizations to understand what matters most to the communities we serve.

Rather than beginning with assumptions about what communities need to know, we begin with questions: What health concerns are people experiencing? What questions are they asking? What barriers make it difficult to find answers or access care? And how can health information be shared in ways that feel relevant, respectful, and useful?

Those conversations shape how we develop and deliver our health education.

Health Education in Action

Turning health information into knowledge communities can use.

Our health education responds to the questions, priorities, and needs we hear from the communities we serve. Through interactive workshops, community conversations, multilingual resources, and partnerships with trusted organizations, we create opportunities to learn, ask questions, and take meaningful steps toward better health.

Bone Health & Osteoporosis

Strong bones are an important part of staying healthy throughout life, yet osteoporosis often develops without symptoms until a fracture occurs. AWFH provides culturally and linguistically responsive education to help community members better understand bone health, osteoporosis risk and prevention, nutrition, physical activity, and ways to talk with healthcare providers about their bone health.
