Women’s Health Across the Lifespan
Women’s health needs change across the lifespan, yet many topics—from reproductive and sexual health to menopause, bone health, and healthy aging—remain overlooked, stigmatized, or difficult to discuss.
At Asian Women for Health (AWFH), we create culturally responsive opportunities for community members to learn about their health, ask questions, and engage in open conversation. Our education is designed to build knowledge and confidence, support prevention and informed decision-making, and help people more actively participate in their healthcare.
Why does this matter?
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) women represent diverse communities with distinct cultures, languages, migration histories, and experiences with healthcare. Yet health data are frequently aggregated under broad racial categories, masking important differences in health risks, outcomes, and access to care. Massachusetts public health guidance specifically highlights differences among Asian populations as an important reason for disaggregating health data.
Research also points to disparities in preventive care and screening among Asian American women, with differences across ethnic groups and factors such as language, immigration history, insurance coverage, and access to a usual source of care shaping health outcomes.
AWFH responds by developing health education that reflects the experiences, questions, and priorities of the communities we serve. Our work spans different stages of life and continues to evolve alongside community needs.
Areas of Focus
Our women’s health education evolves alongside the communities we serve. We address a range of health topics across the lifespan, with programming shaped by community needs, emerging priorities, and gaps in culturally relevant health information and resources. Current and ongoing areas of focus include:

Featured Program: Bone Health & Osteoporosis Education
AWFH’s bone health education brings culturally and linguistically responsive, practical information about osteoporosis prevention and healthy aging directly into community settings. Our recent pilot engaged Chinese-speaking women in Greater Boston, providing education designed around the language, cultural context, and health needs of the community.
Through interactive workshops, participants explored osteoporosis risk factors, nutrition for bone health, weight-bearing physical activity, screening and prevention, and questions they could bring to their healthcare providers. Sessions were designed to make information approachable and actionable while creating space for participants to ask questions and connect what they learned to their everyday lives.
The pilot demonstrated promising results: 96.3% of participants reported feeling better prepared to care for their bone health, 77.4% increased their awareness of osteoporosis, and 92.7% planned to incorporate weight-bearing activity into their routines.
